Feed Mills
Elanco Animal Health commissioned GlobalVetLink™ to create electronic Veterinary Feed Directives for Swine Veterinarians and Feed mills. Currently, both Elanco Animal Health and GlobalVetLink are in communication with the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to move the paper process to a fully electronic process. Both feed mills and veterinarians would have full access to all electronic VFDs any time there is an internet connection.
Legible Writing
Since all information is entered into GlobalVetLink electronically, there is no need to attempt to decipher illegible handwriting. All information is neatly arranged on the VFD and ready to be processed.
Electronic Documents
As eVFDs are generated by veterinarians for your feed mill, GlobalVetLink stores the certificates and emails them to a contact at your feed mill. Refill reminders are also emailed to the feed mill (if an email address is provided to GlobalVetLink) so that you can keep updated on orders that may need to be filled.
Recognized by the FDA
The Food & Drug Administration currently recognizes electronic Veterinary Feed Directives as a valid way to prescribe Pulmotil. Although Veterinarians still need to fax the prescription to the feed mill, soon GVL will be offering a total electronic process, whereas no paperwork will change hands. Receiving the document electronically will be all that is needed.
Feed mills will be added to the GlobalVetLink database to receive eVFDs electronically as GlobalVetLink swine veterinarians send electronic VFDs to mills. If you are currently receiving electronic VFDs via fax and would like to receive them via email (in addition), please call GlobalVetLink at 515-296-3779.
