History of GVL

GlobalVetLink, L.C. (GVL), headquartered in Ames, Iowa, was founded in 1999 by Kevin Maher, President. His vision was to replace an archaic paper based animal health regulatory process with real-time connectivity across the U.S.

As time passed, and in partnership with Dr. W. Eugene Lloyd, DVM, and Dr. Conrad Schmidt, DVM; Mr. Maher’s vision developed into cutting edge expertise for online animal health regulatory applications. The GlobalVetLink™ on-line applications for interstate and intra-state animal movement continue to grow as well as new tools for connectivity between veterinarian subscribers and animal health authorities.

During 2001, GVL launched its on-line application that allowed practitioners, state authorities, diagnostic laboratories and other health officials, to build, access and monitor animal movement documents all by the click of a mouse. Official Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (OCVI) and Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) Certificates were the first applications available and were immediately being utilized in the state of Florida. Today, GVL also offers on-line Pet For Sale Certificates and Veterinary Feed Directives (eVFDs) for practitioners.

Currently, GVL provides services to veterinary practices in states across the U.S. – with over 120 million animals that have moved thru our applications since our beginnings. Our subscriber base is growing weekly, with the help of GVL’s in-house staff and contract employees that operate throughout the United States. At our current growth rate, paper OCVI and EIA forms for the most part will be obsolete within the next decade.

In addition to the success of GVL, clients of GVL have improved their business process and efficiency by using our on-line services. Not only is the web-based application easier to use than previous paper forms, it’s a more professional and legible certificate to present to the practitioner’s clients, including digital photos of their animals directly on the certificate.

While Mr. Maher started out with a very specific goal, GVL has proven to be much more. Kevin Maher and the GVL team are working on new products with the hope to bring greater efficiency improvements through our web-based applications in greater aspects of the animal health world.
